Default florida

just found out that i have orders to florida.

are there any smog, emissions, or otherwise wierd inspections laws i need to worry about.

the two cars i am concerned about are my 68 mustang and 72 vette so neither have any emissions equipment like air or smog pumps.

Nope, no inspections in Florida. They did away with them years ago because they were worthless. Flunk at one inspection station, pass at another.

Remove the cat and air pump and welcome to Florida.

You will sweat just walking to the mailbox in July and August.

You will have trouble at the DMV unless your vehicles are all properly titled. NOT bonded titled but a gen-u-wine State issued document. AFAIK there is no "free pass" at 25 or so years like in GA and other states. I had to chase a Washington state title down recently for my father in law so he could register a 1978 Honda motorcycle I GAVE him... a nightmare to be sure. FL residents chime in here if I am wrong...

There is a $250 fee for out-of-state cars (Might have gone up in last two years). Don't know about the title.
My 1st vette was from South Dakota, The woman at the DMV had to look at the vette to make sure it was that same one on the title.

YUP, because of Alabama and this being a hotrod state in Florida, Alabama is the only non title state I know of.....they MAY be picky over that.....they DO personally check out of state vin#s for correlation.....cant say over fees....12 years ago for me....

as for Texas heat...it'd DRY, this heat is 99% humidity....

take a thread off a spool, hang it outside, it's curly for maybe 15 minits....then it sags straight, and drips from the end....

get my drift???

They used to check emissions in Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade counties on the SE side and in the Tampa area. I'm not sure if they are still doing that or not.

The rest is pretty well open.

They do check the VIN against the title. For years, Florida was a dumping ground for stolen cars, and so they make sure that only Florida-grown cars are stolen now, not those imported from other states.

Each county handles the tags and registration, and they vary the amount. You need to check the county you are going online and you'll find all you need to know.

Emissions testing in Florida ended in 2000. A few states don't issue titles on older cars, NY, GA, AL come to mind. They use either a bill of sale and/ or transferable registration.

FWIW, I would suggest that you download the "Application for certificate of title with/without registration" form from Fl DMV site. Fill it out, have a notary sign it and you won't have to bring the car to the local DMV for inspection (at least in my county). The notarized document, bill of sale, title/registration from your state and proof of insurance should be all you need.

Welcome to Fl, "Where the rules are different"....

Mike

Hey I'm in the tampa area. Hit me up when you get close to coming in. Have you looked for a place yet? Rent, buy, Etc? This is Hillsborough county, no emissions or inspections for now, but title and registrations have just gone up in price due to "budget shortfalls".

go to www.myflorida.com and you will find links to the state DMV. as long as you are not registering your vehicles in the state, you have no worries. even if there were mandatory inspections/emissions, etc testing, you would be considered "visiting" the state and you wouldn't be subject to the state requirements because you aren't a resident here. as an active duty military person, you don't have any worries from a regulatory standpoint in my opinion.

if you were to register a car here, then you would be subject to the "out of state" add on fee, and due to the age of the cars, i'm pretty sure you would be applying for a bill of sale transfer.
