Painting advice
I am currently stripping the paint off my 1980 using a liquid chemical. Its messy but works great. Someone had mentioned that I might be removing a "Gel Coat" off the fiberglass and it will cost $$ to fix & is needed before I primer. I have sanded some areas & seem to get the same results. Anyone here of this gel coat? I am a rookie at this and trying to learn.

I may be wrong, but to the best of my knowledge, Corvettes aren't gel coated. A gel coat is that glossy finish you see on aftermarket fiberglass parts and boats.
Epoxy primer, sealer, filler primer for the bad spots, then top coat should get you going again.
If I'm wrong, someone please chime in. I don't mind learning.
