ok, i hate being that guy, however. i finally found an oil that will work well for my flat tappet cam and then i go and buy a replacement engine that has a roller cam.
after reading oil thread after oil thread here i had started using VR1 20w50 (still do in my 68 mustang) however I understand that with the roller cam I do not need that super high zinc oil any more but will it hurt to still use it (since i have a couple of cases in the garage)

The argument against using oils with high levels of zinc on newer roller motors was that they could compromise the life of catalytic converters. That is why the automotvie industry lobbied the oil manufacturers to lower it. Since you don't have a catalytic converter (I assume), it won't hurt your new roller motor.
I prefer Mobil 1 synthetic in my newer, roller motor cars and Rotella 15W 40 in my older flat tappet motors.
