Default heat issue, please help

I just bought a 70 454 390 hp auto convertible. It has A.C but not working yet. In the mean time, while driving, the hair on my legs are getting singed off from the heat. The heater is not on, but... im guessing... the heat from the engine is blowing through the vents AND IT IS HOT!

Any thoughts? I am in the process of getting money together for alum radiator and a/c fix, but is there something else i should do/be doing in the mean time (or as well??)? It is HHHHOOOOTTT! Thanks.
