Sidepipe baffles
I'm looking at replacing mine with a set from Sweet-Thunder and I got to thinking, does anyone run with just headers and straight pipes?
Advantages? Disadvantages? Sound better? Worse?
Just curious.
I drove 4 miles and got pulled over 3 times

bear in mind that I have a little baby L48, and at an idle, you literally have to scream to talk to a passenger.
I love that sound, but only if I was at a track, and it is highly illegal in most if not all states.
Turn it up!!! Both of these runs are pathetic, btw. The first run was started in the wrong gear with a manual valve body.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

i will try to get more with a better video camera soon.

It's not easy to compare inserts when one engine is making 190hp and another is making lets say 500hp. No matter what insert you use they aren't going to sound anything alike.
I'm still leaning towards the Sweet-Thunder set for my 454...but there are some awesome sounding vettes being posted.
Also there was an earlier post http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...vs-spiral.html showing max gains with NO baffles (loud as hell, but best results). I find that interesting. I was just curious if anyone ran baffle-less and the answer seems to be no...too loud.

I'll be going back to my modified reverse flows this weekend.
My STS baffles are completely uncapped, and yeah they are pretty loud, it's usually louder than a Harley, if I happen to be sitting next to one at a light.
As for open headers, way too loud; it sent my video camera into error mode and shut it off the first time I tried to record open headers.
Driving with STS Baffles.
With the STS it allowed it to breathe pretty easy, little more performance, but it does sound a bit more raspy or tin canny, and it cackles a lot when coming off the throttle.
Driving with Glasspacks, same route.
I thought they sounded good as well, but they were older and had a little carbon build up when I pulled them.
Good luck on your decision.
