Default weatherstrip

can someone explain how to replace the weatherstriping on the doors and on the front and rear pillars. do you have to drill out the rivets? what about re attaching, what do you use, besides adhesive? do you use rivets? thank you for your help.

seems like when I did it everything was held in with small, coarse-thread screws, similar to the ones that hold the console together I replaced those with new screws and didnt have any problems... thinking back I guess rivets might give a cleaner look. The adhesive, of course, is the most important part to get right, but the screws made it easier for me to adjust the pillar strips before the adhesive dried

i have never done this before, so i was wondering if you could explain the process, like where do you attach the screws? From behind the panel ? drill out the rivets and replace with screws? What about the long ones for the doors, they sent a bunch of screws, but I cant see where they would go. thank you for all your help!!

You need to get the AIM for your year. It shows all the screw locations on the door, and I believe there was a rivet originally in the side glass rear pillar weather strip, at least on the 70. You'll need remove the inside trim panel to be able to drill it out. Do a search, there's been a lot of threads on this topic. Good luck.

AIM is the Assembly Illustration Manual the guys in the factory used. Shows a good "How-To" for just about everything on the body. Willcox (supporting vendor) has them on CD.

Weatherstrip is not that tough to install. It can be tough to remove. Kind of have to scrape, dig, pull, scrub and wipe to get the old stuff off.
I installed the new stuff- lay it out so it's not twisted, figure out how it lays on the door. I installed both ends with the screws, then applied a bead of adhesive and started sticking it in place. Stick a little bit, pull it off, then stick it back in place. Takes a bit of practice, the idea is to mate it up, then pull it away so the adhesive tacks up and then set it. Be careful to not stretch it as you go.

thanks for your reply, can you tell me are there specific locations for the screws? through the face of the weatherstriping or through the back?

As you're looking at the installed weatherstrip on the door there will be what looks like holes in it at the pieces at the ends. Poke around in those holes with a phillips screwdriver- you'll find them.

This might help him some and if you want the AIM, they are listed in the forum special section of the web site. http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...ducts_id=25586
