Default ampmeter problem maybe

Ampmeter has always work on the 0 position, I`ve noticed lately, from a standing stop and taking off the amp gauge pops into the positive, seconds later back to 0 position.

Things checked:
New battery
Rebuilt Alternator (80 amp)
Belt snug (will be getting a new one soon)

Possibly loss ground?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Rod

update even at idle, step on the gas it pulls positive.

Did a battery test...checks out 12.34
Check Alternator...

1) Start Car and run at a normal idle. Mine 12.34

2) Connect a Voltmeter Directly Across the battery Terminals.

3) Turn on Headlights to High Beam.

4) check the battery Voltage. *** The Battery voltage Should read between about 13.8 to 14.2 volts. (Possibly up to 14.5 Volts.)
Mine 12.00

5) Increase motor speed to about 1500 RPM. The Alternator should now produce a battery voltage between 14.2 and 14.6 Volts. *** If it is Lower than 14.2 volts, the Alternator probably has one or more Bad Diodes.
Mine 13.95

6) Now, Maintain the 1500 RPM and Turn off the Headlights. Run this test for One Full Minute. "The Battery Voltage should NEVER Exceed about 14.8 Volts". ***If it Does, the Alternators Voltage Regulator is probably Faulty, OVER CHARGING the Battery.
Mine 14.35

So on conclusion: The alternator is bad

This was suppose to be my original alternator rebuilt.

Tell you the truth, I would not be worried with those numbers. They sound acceptable to me.

First noticed when headlights were turned on, the stereo on and pulling away from a stop the stereo cuts out. Now its when ever starting from a dead stop, ammeter pulls into positive about +15, +20 and stereo cuts out. Completely disconnected stereo and still happens.

Trying to eliminate things.

Alternator might be a little weak, but not dead. Could have an open diode, easy to replace.

The thing that pisses me is it was rebuilt on Thursday. So come Tuesday guess were I`ll be, instead of driving.

Had a good weekend though, lots of time spent with the mistress.
