I just took the pivot bolt out of my left TA last night. Only took about 3 minutes to get the bolt out, what's the big deal. Well come to think of it, the last time I took it out it took about 3 hours. So if I take it out 100 more times the average time to remove it will be under 5 minutes.
I cut mine out last month. Not the most fun spent on my car for certain, but I wouldn't use a shop to do it, just take your time and be patient with it, you'll get them out.
I could not believe the amount of rusted parts in the rear end of my 77 Project car, but now, well look for yourself.
My first experience with my 71 was prying, gouging, ripping , taring the brake pads out so I could get the car on the trailor for the 500 mile trip home.
Second experience......Hours and hours of cutting the T/A's out. There is no way I would let some "SHOP" do that kind of work on my Vette, no way. After years of getting screwed by "SHOPS", I'm convinced that there is no one on this planet that would take the time, nor put the care and love into a job on my car as I would. And I'm certain they wouldn't do it for the same price as I would
Also if you use a torch watch you don't set the carpet on fire just behind the frame rail.
I'm with that idea, DW. Too many things under there that burn really easy unless you have the car on a lift for extra control. Lying on your side with the car on jackstands is bad enough and with a lit torch, well... I'd want to practice more before trying that on my own ride. I'm just sayin'.
My sawzall handled the problem in less than 10 min per side and nothing got burnt. Didn't even break the blade, either side. Worked for me.

I use the torch as a last resort but the first time I did use a torch I peeled back the carpet and backing to keep an eye on it and I was surprised how hot the fiberglass got behind the seat. When using the torch now I run water between the frame rail and the body and wet a towel for the inside, messy but well worth it. Sure wish I was rich and could afford to buy and try a plasma cutter when I can't get the shims to cooperate. Until then my old Milwaukee sawsall will have to do.
