Default Another T-Top Weatherstrip ?

Hello, Just a quick question here. When replacing the t-top weatherstriping do you apply some type of adhesive or sealant under the outboard side that is screwed down by the four screws? Thanks

Interested to see how that goes, that is not too far off in my future.. Your tops glass? What about the molding that goes around the glass top?

I checked out that link, they make it look/sound relatively easy.

just started doing my weather stripping kit today. to remove the old ruber and adheasive and reinstall the new with properly working the seal to get it to where the seal wasnt pushed or pulled by the tree fasteners took about 1.5 hours per side. they are sitting on the car now. what is amazing was how much i had to loosen the t top latches so it didnt feel like i would break them trying to compress the seals

There is a lot of good info on the link, but it doesn't address my question. Do you apply sometype of sealant or adhesive under the outer edge of the weatherstriping which is held down by the four screws?

Thanks Tim

mine had a black goo that was the consistancy of really moist brownies that i could remove with a flat head screwdriver just pushing on it.
where all the glue and adhesive were dried and crumbly this stuff was still moist and goo-y

I figured it was prob a factory sealent so i put a bead of black permatex silicone adheasive under there to mainly just keep water out of the holes

i have not found or seen a replacement for the stuff so it might have been a temp thing from the factory to hold the piece in place till they got the seals set.

hope this helps as i went nuts trying to find the stuff on all the vendors sites

Yes, That does help, to tell you the truth I replaced my seals a couple of months ago. I resently notice that I had some water leaking through there and figured I had did something wrong. I did not appy anything under that part of the weatherstriping, I fiquired the screws would hold it down tight enough to prevent any leaks. I did find the same black gue that you found. I am going to put some black silicon in there like you suggested. It certainly couldn't hurt.

Thanks Tim

Don't use black silicone! What you use in these areas is 3M Strip-Calk (yes, spelling is correct). You can get them at most paint and body supply houses. There are 60 one foot strips in a box, they are about a quarter inch wide and are very tacky.

Tim, read "73 454 vette" post above, he mentions a "gooey stuff" that he could pry off, that's strip-calk. It's very tacky and is a great seal as well as having holding power on your rubber molding that silicon just doesn't do a good job of. Ask the guys at the supply house, it's in all kinds of places on your Vette right now.

I see you're in Canton, I have family up there and lived in Akron for a couple years when I was a kid. Ahhhh, I sure do miss...uh, well there's, uh, no wait there's...uh....never mind

What has happened so far is that i got the 4 screws out. Found nothing in that area as far as a sealant. Now whats left is really hard rubbery stuff adheard to the rest of the old weatherstriping. My question is do i scrap and pry this old rubbery stuff out or is this the bonding material that bonds the glass to the frame????? Please help
