Default Any alternator setup that doesn't mount using the header bolts?

Hi,

After installing hookers on my '70 I really want to show them off more in the engine bay, and I was just wondering if there are any aftermarket alternator mounts that don't use the header bolts to mount?

It is a standard 350 small block, and the only accessories I am running are: waterpump, power steering, alternator. Currently it just has the original setup (although I had to of course use the hooker brackets for the alternator since the factory mount is cast into the exhaust manifold).

pictures would be great

The later model mounts mount on the front of the head.

You can find same bracket in EBAY bracket has # 3951337 cast in it. I just bought one for $15 + $10 for shipping.

Thanks for the tips re alternator install guys! I had no idea they went with this neat setup for later years (I always hated having the alternator mounted to the exhaust manifold, seemed ridiculous to me), and I love it that I am using a factory vette part.

I just got the # 3951337 bracket from ebay, but no bolts were included to attach it to the head so I was wondering if anyone can tell me what size and length these bolts are so I can find a couple and have them ready to go when the bracket gets here.

I love this forum.

Check the OE 63-67 Corvette small block alternator bracket, it mounts on the passenger side and is the stock bracket. ...those brackets from the header companies are junk....I know they work on the early Vettes

Hi Ironcross, thanks for your reply, the part number I referred to was a GM/vette part number for the 76 onward driver side head mounted alternator bracket, I agree the brackets from the header companies are crap, especially since it is in two parts that bolt together, it looks like a bubba job, that's what started me looking for an alternative.

I love being able to use genuine GM parts to solve problems like this, gives the car a stock feel even if it isn't really.

So can anyone tell me what size/length bolts attach this bracket to the head?

can anyone show me a picture of the head without the bracket installed and/or installed. i have a 72 350 camaro engine in mine(not my fault) i see one hole with threads and another within an inch that may or may not have threads but they are too close for the orientation of the bracket. i really need to know if i can make this work 'cause i hate the hedder bracket..thanks matt

3/8's coarse thread. About 1 1/4 long I think. 1 1/2 may work if not just cut to length.

That sounds about right to me. 3/8 - 18 x 1.25" or so
