Default Installing Hooker Side Pipes

So, on my stripped '77 frame and as of today, my front brakes, suspension & steering are completely rebuilt...I'm getting ready to run the new fuel lines and drop the rear suspension/3rd member for rebuilding.

But, I've got a different question: As background, I got a real good deal on a used set of hooker headers & side pipes that are in excellent shape....& I ordered a new installation kit from Hooker....

How do I mount the side pipes? To the frame? Or to the body?

Can anybody kinda walk me through mounting the side pipes?

After my rear suspension is complete, we're installing the '86 TPI engine with a 200 4R tranny. But, these side pipes are causing me a little angst.

just install the headers and then put the pipes on when everything is back together.

Thanks....but that doesn't really help me....

Do the side pipes attach to the frame or the body?

&, if so, how are those "T" bolts & rubber bushings used?

Pipes attach to frame. T-bolts go into frame, then it is a bushing/bracket/bushing/washer/nut sequence. Also, don't cut the trim panels till you check fit first. I could have gotten away with not cutting mine as much on the passenger side. I also did not need to move my electric oil pressure sender like Hooker says.

The correct word for the panel underneath the doors on the outside of the car escapes me. The panel is fastened via spring clips and screws.

On my 73 the side pipes are bolted to the frame just behind that panel. You must remove the panel to bolt it to the frame, then put the panel back on.

My 77 sitting right next to it has the very same holes for mounting the side pipes.

The sidepipes bolt to the frame. Like SteveG75 says. There are slots in the frame that the T-bolts go in, turn 90* and allow the rest of the assembly. Note that the brackets on the tubes may need to be aligned a bit to get the pipe turned correctly and not hit the door. I had to bolt mine up and then step on the pipe to adjust the bracket so the doors would clear.

I'm installing my engine/tranny before dropping the body back on the frame....if I put the pipes on loosely, will they interfere with dropping the body in place?

Once you get the headers on, do not tighten the header bolts; this will give you more play for adjustment on the side pipes. Once the side pipes are mounted (make sure they clear open doors) the way you want them, tighten up the header bolts. This is also a real good time to replace motor mounts if you have not done this yet.
This is what I found to work best for me
