I just bought a 1971 Coupe and would like to transport it from near Rochester, NY to Easton, PA. I checked with Penske trucking and they require special insurance to allow me to rent and use their equipment to make this move. I also got quotations for open and closed carriers ranging from $300 for an open carrier to $825 for an enclosed carrier. I don't own a truck and I don't own a trailer so I am at the mercy of those that do.
Suggestions would be welcomed and thanks for listening.

Rent a full size pick to drive up and get the car. Reserve a u-haul car trailer near where the car is.
Make sure the pick up has a decent trailer hitch. U-haul can hook you up with a temporary trailer wiring system (actually just a couple of tail light bulbs for the truck that have extra wires hanging out of them.
I did this when I needed to haul a bunch of parts, and a complete chassis, to a swap meet.
Cost, as best I recall, was about $100 for the truck for the weekend, and about $75 for the trailer on a one way rental. Add gas into the overall cost.
When you factor in your time, it might make sense to pay the $300.
Check with Tom Sunday. He is located in PA and is VERY GOOD.
