Default 80 Steering Wheel install

So I used the search function and say some reports saying how easy a steering wheel install would be. I guess I'm showing my lack of skills here but a read a couple people said the install takes 10 minutes....it took me 67 minutes. As soon as I took apart the middle it all started falling apart and I could figure out how to get it back together. Luckily, in just over an hour the new wheel is on a looks great.

Another note, the horn didn't work before and now when I push it it doesn't realy budge. I guess it's not that big of a deal since it didn't work to start with.

If the horn is not moving in, then it is not reassembled correctly... do you have telescopic wheel, does it still function?

I agree with you. I think the part that caused me so much pain was that I was missing two of three of the little clips that hold everything together. I'm not sure what they're called but their small plastic plugs that hold the abundance of metal together. Since I only had one that didn't fall apart when I took everything apart I had trouble getting it back together with just my 2 hands.

I'm not worried about the horn though because it didn't work anyway.

I think you're looking at the horn contact. If your horn is not working, is the contact pin and spring there? Willcox has a kit with all the necessary parts:

They also have the plastic plug type insulators and all the parts seperatly, but the kit makes it easy.

And I'm compelled to add that with all the idiots out there driving, talking on the phone or texting, you really DO need a horn.

There was definitely no spring when I took it apart. I didn't even know one was supposed to be there. I had everything except the 3 plastic plastic pins (missing 2) and the spring. Thanks for the heads-up on the horn kit.

Hey Smokin,

I just replaced my wheel too. My 3 plastic rivets were shoot also. I
ordered a horn contact from Volenteer. It has amazing quality. $18. Your
Broken Rivets won`t hold the horn button, when you pushed yours on, they probably pushed themselves right out the back. Happy Crusin.
