I have a 70 vette convertible, just about ready to hit the road after a 6 year total dismantle and rebuild. Everything is back in and got the wiper door and wipers to work as they are suppose to, however a very strange thing happens when the car is turned off and the wiper door is let in the open position, the wipers start running and do not respond to the switch. They keep running until I turn the **** under the dash off. I sent the wiper motor out to be worked on, did something get screwed up or is this the way it suppose to work.
that is the way they are supposed to work, if the wiper door is up the actuater feeds power to the wiper motor,to turn off the power the door needs to be in the closed position ,the round **** under the dash stops the power from going to the motor ,otherwise it is a completed circut all the time with the door in the open position

I don't think that is correct. The wiper door has no electrical connections on it. It is vacuum operated. If your wipers stay on after the key is shut off, something is wrong. The only thing the **** under the dash is supposed to do is stop the wipers while they are on the windshield so you can change blades. They should not be able to run the wipers if the wiper switch is off.
Your wiper switch sounds like it may be wired wrong.

When you turn on the wiper switch the wiper solenoid sends vacuum to the wiper relay which changes the direction of vacuum to the actuator to open the wiper door.
Once the door is open the wipers begin moving which releases the button on the interlock switch under the passenger wiper arm. The interlock switch changes vacuum from the manual override switch to the wiper relay ensuring the wiper door stays open as long as the wipers are moving.
Once the wiper switch is turned off the wipers go to the park position which depresses the button on the interlock switch thereby changing the vacuum from the relay back to the manual override switch again and causes the vacuum at the actuator to reverse sides closing the door.
There are 2 override switches under the steering column for the wiper system, one is electrical (the ****) and the other is vacuum (the pull handle).
When you need to work on the wipers you first need to turn the car on, then turn the wipers on, then pull down on the wiper door override switch handle on the right side then turn the **** in the middle to stop the wipers at a convenient spot on the windshield.
Now you can turn off the car and the wiper door will stay open and the wipers will stay put until you restart the car, turn the wiper override switch back to the left then push the wiper door override switch back up.
If you turn the car off and the wipers continue to run or start up on their own, you have an electrical problem regardless of the position of the wiper door.
