Hi, I was removing the driver side windshield post weatherstripping and the windshield molding strip also came off. There is this black putty substance between the molding and the windshield. It was old and crusty and pretty much fell off on its own. I have several questions. What is it? Do I need it? and where can I buy some? It goes into the channel on the post next the the windshield. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Tim
If you are talking about a "U" shaped chrome trim that the weatherstrip sets in then yes you need it. It should have been attached with three screws. The black stuff is a adhesive/sealer for the weatherstrip.
There is a cleaner that with a putty knife can clean off the old black adhesive. Any of the Corvette vendors carry both the cleaner and the adhesive. Use the cleaner in a well ventilated area.
Thanks Joe, I'll pick some up tomorrow. I was going to Bubba it and use some type of plumbers putty, but now I can use to proper materials. Mike here is a picture of the right side. Tim
