I recently bought a 73 auto...it seems to be bone stock and the performance is disappointing. I know I can't expect much from a 275hp engine with 8.5 cr, but this car i slow....!
Can anyone recommend a camshaft only, to wake things up a little? I want to leave all else original, carb, intake etc.?
Also, while driving at 60mph it is spinning at 2500rpm...I am curious as to what axle ratio it has...
TIA
make sure the secondarys are opening. check the choke lock-out and also the linkage. have someone floor the pedal(engine off), open the vaccum operated butterfly and see if the lower throttle plate is open. if it's not open, look for pedal interference(carpet, etc) and slack in the cable.
just went thru this with my 72 bb rebuild. engine felt flat above 3000 rpm. found slack in the cable mounting bracket at the carb. burns thru 1st gear now!
Where is it flat? I start with basic tune up, then optimize ignition curve. Make sure fuel filter is not clogged. Start with the basics!
Depending on age....plugs,cap,rotor, ign wires, carb kit ,filters ,wet/dry compression test..if still bad check for valve lift/Flat lobe
454 should pull pretty good even for a smogger
Thx for the replies.
All good advice, but assuming the tune was good and the comps were ok, what spec. cam would waken it up nicely without it being an overly lumpy, temperamental PIA...?
I will be fitting a complete Magna system and am hoping it will breathe better....
TIA, again
