Off the top of your head does anyone know if O'reilly, Autozone, or Advanced Auto sells any type of frame paint?
I just applied some por-15 to my bare frame yesterday (which can fade in UV light) and wanted to go back over it with some black paint colored to match my frame. It doesn't have to be factory correct, just close.
The reason why I'm asking is because I want to pick it up today, and the paint stores are closed.
Since you're just looking to top coat the POR....how about Rustolium? I usually use Eastwood chassis black, but in a pinch I'd think Rustolium would be pretty durable.
I just went out and looked at the1/4 gallon of frame paint I had left over from a project 5 years ago. I almost forgot about it.
It has Nason on it so I might be able to get another gallon at O'reillies since they sell that brand.
Either way I'm going to want to hit my frame with some 320 grit because I tried to clean all the blast material as best I could and it still has a lot in the por-15. Once I knock texture from the blast media down I may spray a few coats of high build primer on it to get it a little smoother and then the frame paint.
Tip for everyone, go crazy with the tack cloth if you ever sandblast your frame, rinsing isn't enough.
If anyone sees anything wrong with what I'm doing please let me know
I've been told by a national NCRS judge to use NAPA's Martin Senour line. They have a Self Etching Primer for bare steel, Hot Rod Gray Primer for the rest and a Chassis Black for the top coat. I've bought some of it but haven't sprayed any yet. I've seen cars done with this paint and the frames look great.
I have used POR-15 and POR-15 chassis black many times and think it is great. Accidently spilled a little POR-15 recently, and a side grinder with a cup wire brush would hardly phase it after it had dried overnight. It is some tough stuff. You could probably topcoat POR-15 with any semigloss or satin black. Good luck.
