I have a numbers match 1972 LT1 with correct dual feed Holley and no smog pump.
The problem is that at times, but not always, usually after car has been running for about 15 minutes it sounds like a whistling tea kettle.
The whistling isn't very loud and stops when I take my foot off the gas pedal.
I've checked the vacuum lines and all seem to be okay.
Any ideas as to the cause?
The throttle shaft could be getting loose creating a vacuum leak around the shaft itself. Go in there when it whistles and spray carb cleaner around anywhere you think may have a vacuum leak. When the idle picks up, you found the leak.
.......then re-detail the engine compartment when you fixed the leak.
check the condition of the fan belt and the power steering belt (if you have power steering) maybe they are loose, some belt dressing might quiet them down. Sometimes a bearing in the waterpump might make some noises before its ready to fail, check that out as well and let us know what you find
