Today I felt like turning a wrench so I headed out to the garage. I am planning on removing the body from my '69 convertible so I set out to locate the 4 driver's side body mounts. The number 3 mount gave me some confusion untill I spotted the access panel in the wheel well. I managed to remove numbers 1 to 3 very easily, thinking "wow it sure is nice to work on california cars lol." Then it happened. When trying to remove the number four bolt, it spun in the hole. Either the bolt or the threaded plate or both are stripped, and it looks like I will have to do some "removing of the bolt head" with a die grinder, or dremel, or something of that nature.

Has this happened to anyone else? Feel free to share/discuss here.

Kelly

No4 you should be able to get from underneith with a sawzall. At least on the late C3s its more or less in the open.

Yes it is in the open on the bottom, but I tought I would try grinding off the head first and see if it will come out the top. If that fails, I know I could cut the bolt, but I would rather try removing the head first so I don't risk`damaging anything else.

If you grind the bolt head off the bolt will still be threaded into the caged nut but you will be able to remove the body. To get the caged nut out you have to remove the rivets holding the reinforcement and then remove the rivets holding the nut cage. You might be able to wedge a screwdriver or something into the area where the nut is and stop it from turning. Access is at the back of the storage compartment. Spray some PB Blaster in there for a few days, try wedging the nut and see if the bolt will come out. It's a lot easier than removing the reinforcement.

Kelly,
Give me a call next time you work on it because I just went thru this with my 73 . Had to grind off the heads of both #4 mounts. There are also plenty of ground straps to remove. Check for one up by the starter, I almost missed this one
