I have just purchased a 68 convertible and am needing some help! The man I bought it from has takin out the engine and has about 15-20 engines stored in his shop! He told me the original engine and trans is in his shop that comes with the car! I have a vin # but no motor id number to get the original engine! Can anybody point me the way to verfiy the numbers to get the original motor and trans? Thanks for any help!
Mike
a partial VIN was stamped on the engine and transmission from the factory.
For the engine, the engine stamp pad is about 1/2" wide by 2" long and is on the engine block right in front of the passenger side of the engine, juts out from under the rh cylinder head. Auto trans would be stamped upside down on the lh driver's side, just above the pan.
I hope you got the car at a discount...

Pad on the block at the front of the right head. '74 small block shown; 68 will be similar. VIN derivitive on the left (smaller characters); engine assembly date and suffix on right. Find the block with your VIN on it.
