My first car was a 72 Chevelle Malibu. It was a great car, but it is no Corvette. You'll regret the trade.

Unless the chevelle is a rag with a 5spd or a 6 spd , youre going backwards. I had a look at your car. Its pretty nice.

I look at it this way. My vette is 'me' time. I go for a ride with one other person at a time. No one spilling ice creams in the backseat - no carload of buddies that all want to talk at the same time.....
Its me and one other person. Mostly its me and the wife. Kinda like a date. Or if its me and a buddy- or me and my boy- then I can have a one on one conversation. Your little girl or guy probably appreciates spending time with just dad where he or she can sit up front and not fight for your time with another sibling or their mother . And they're not relegated to the back seat like some 2nd class citizen.
Just my 2cents

I must be missing something.

This is the worst idea I've heard since socialized health care.

Family is important. It might be a step backwards but I doubt anybody would hold it against you if trading for the Chevelle would mean spending more quality time with your family. I've seen some pretty nice Chevelles , got any pics ?

If you are looking from a value standpoint.. look at asking prices on 72 malibus vs what you think you will get on your vette... vettes continue to be at the bottom on pricing on classic old chevys... get your answer from a value standpoint...
I don't understand it, but classic chevy's ( and just about any other classic car) continue to sell for more than a vette...

face reality and make the trade.. if you can realistically sell the malibu for more... the guy probably has the corvette fever and wants to trade you..

Is this a plain Jane Malibu? Not a SS or SS clone? 307/powerglide or 350/turbo 350? 4 speed? I can't remember the last time I saw a simple base car, never mind one that was for sale. Definitely a better family car, but a no go for me valuewise unless it's already dressed up.

I have both. A Chevelle AND the 'Vette. The family thing is kind of a pain. I have three girls and all my hotrods are only two seaters. (Nova, Chevelle, Corvette) We're in the bargaining stage to pick up a '67 Impala for the whole family to cruise in. Only you can answer the question ultimately. Go with your heart on this one. A Chevelle is no 'Vette, but a 'Vette is no Chevelle, either.

Good luck on the decision.

You really didn't supply any details so we're going by Corvette Vs Malibu. Malibu looses every time. Other than more seating what else does the Malibu have to offer? Do you know history of the car? Is this the type of car you have been looking for? Think this thing through and realize where it leaves you long term.

I'd say..............NO! there will no doubt be times when you're with the family that you'd be thinking..."Damn! I really wish I had the Vette so I could drive alone and in peace"

Unless they've received the "kegerator" conversion,a hot tub install, or have been gutted so there's a place for the 6500 watt stereo to live, all Chevelles (Malibu or otherwise) and also Novas I have seen have at least vestigial rear seating.

Remember: no back seat drivers in a vette.

Are you kidding!!!!! that is what the family cruiser is for. I say look for another vette and have your private cruise with the family in two vettes.

Just an idea.
