Default New Speaker box

Hooray, I finished my new speaker box for the 81 with the Kenwood 4 way 6x9's in it. It goes all the way across but is up off the floor so the tops still fit. It is covered in black marine grade grained vinyl. I have a 6.5 inch subwoofer ordered for the middle. It already looks and sounds great! Thanks for the info I got from searching threads on here!! :O) Jeff

Jeff...Your speakers look real nice. I like the neat work you did. How is your weather now. I was in Stillwater for a week in June and was it hot.

Finally installed a new amp a few weeks ago.

Tops still fit also.

Installed 4x6 speakers in the pocket behind the kick panels.

Looks like we were all on the same page.....COOL!

It Sounds Good, although years ago noone used subs and the speakers carried more bass, nowadays they don't have as much bass, so I am adding the sub.

Thats sweet! I almost went that way so I could put the larger sub, and I like the color keyed carpet, On mine Cinnabar carpet is hard to come by so I went with grained vinyl. You did a great job! I can't wait till I get my smaller sub installed, my stereo has a sub output, I will try that before I decide on whether or not to get an amp.

I suppose you know a mounting plate needs to be made to separate the front from back sound waves to prevent cancellation for better bass.

Do what I did, get a can of the aerosol spry interior dye in your interior color and spry the vinyl. Mine was black, sprayed it pace car silver and it looks great!

I actually have a can, but I will do the parts I got it for first. Does it cover the black easily?

When the sound waves from back (out-of-phase) mix w/ the sound waves from front cancellation of the low frequencies occur such that putting the speaker in a box can result in 100x greater sound intensity of low frequencies. As you go up to higher frequencies they become more directional. So the speaker needs to be in a box.

Something else that might be worth mentioning in regard to the box is that in general make no internal dimension more than 3x that of any other.

Suggest a divider in the middle & use some polyester fill.

I will just be making my own box though for $20 - $30 instead of spending the $$ and shipping from them.

Are you going to the Downtown Stillwater Car Show next month?

Will that box still allow you to put T Tops in the back?
