is that an aluminum intake or cast iron? i would be inclined to put the ground wire in the same loom that the power wire to the choke is in and ground it to a known good ground such as the alternator.
Yea, I think I would run some twin lead from the loom to the choke to keep it nice and clean. What you did will work fine, but after all the work you have done on this thing I wouldn't be running ground wires on the carb.
Usually the ignition wire, preferably before the ballast resistor.
This way when the engine starts and runs, the coil in the choke warms up and the choke disengages. But if you sit there with the key in the accessory position (e.g., listening to the radio), you don't warm up and disengage the choke ruining it for when you are ready to actually start the car.
When I ran an electric choke, I had a switch under the dash to activate it.
