Default Help with window regulator spring

For you guys that have replaced the round spring on the window regulator (I have a 1981), could you please describe the process of getting the tension right? Both of mine were broke so I don't have a reference point.

Thanks in advance,

Mark G

Here's what I was getting at:

When I have the window regulator out of the car on the bench fully extended, do I just drop the spring in, or do I need to start the spring and tension it while putting it on. Doing that would increase the spring assist.

For those who have had their regulator out of the car (with a good spring), is there tension on the spring even when the regulator is fully extended (open)?

Thanks,

Mark G

Kong here. That comment should give you an idea of how tight the spring should be. The spring pushes up on the window. It's been awhile since I did it- you extend the window frame up high tension the spring then pull down increasing tension till the 2 holes line up for the bolt & insert bolt & put a nut on it. It's common in these topics for someone to say be careful & watch out for your fingers.

The good news is it's not necessary to put full tension on it- a little less & it will go down faster & up a little slower.
