Im looking at a 68 for sale, trying to get a feel for what the current market price should be on this car. Its a very nice all original L68 car, everthing there except smog. A driver quality concours restoration. color is lemans blue, my favorite and bright blue interior, T-top coupe, everything works.4SPD complete car, all original drive train with numbers. only 51k miles on it. very nice. I know a lot of factors on a car like this but, a range would be great if you are familar with them. thanks
As with all of these types of cars, originality and condition will determine the appropriate price range. If the car can be verified as an original example of a Tri-power car, and it is in good or better shape, the price will exceed $20K. There are those here that disagree with me, but I have seen a lot of these cars in the last 2 years, and cars asking under $20K are generally in very poor condition. How far north of $20K will depend on what was done when the car was "restored". If we are talking a recent, documented frame-off type of restoration, the price will be above $30K.
If the car is in good shape, the seller will accept $14K, and you decide not to do the deal, PM me the seller's contact information as I would really like to talk to him/her.
What's the seller asking? At the least, that gives us a starting point.
"A driver quality concours restoration..." isn't that an oxymoron? Driver and concours restoration don't seem to go together.
I was thinking the same thing.......
Anyway, let us know the asking price to see if the seller is nuts or "misinformed".....I would think a decent original tri power 400 hp car will go for 20-25k. How's the frame and birdcage (standard Forum question)?......68's have many many unique one year only parts that can be very hard to find and generally more expensive due to this. Also, not sure what your intentions are with the car, but since you mentioned SMOG, I guess you wish it were there? If so, be prepared to add up to 2k for a complete dated setup. Good luck! john

if its in nice condition and original motor, powertrain, i think 30-35, a lot of people are bottom feeders right now and dont appreciate what these cars really are,

Heard of a very similar car (coincidence?) when I was at Autofair (NC) a couple of weeks ago. Seller wanted 40 something, but then, as now, was impossible to comment without seeing the car.
There was also a similar car for sale off and on in our for sale section a few years back. That was a New Jersey car. It looked very nice, but I don't know what it eventually went for. I think I actually have pics of that car.
guess its not the NJ car - that one still had smog. Maybe the NC car?
oh, and the NJ car was International Blue. That's why I was so interested in it.
Well now you've confused me. Is it restored or unrestored? Driver quality or Concours?
Looking at the photos, it sure seems like a recent restoration to me. It's therefore NOT an original, survivor, unrestored car. Is the seller claiming that the car has the original engine? Have you had this verified to be sure that it's not a restamp? I see several details that make me think that the restorer chose to deviate from factory original configuration, including the mi$$ing $mog $y$tem.
Sounds to me that you're thinking with your lower brain, not your upper. Not saying that it's a bad car, just maybe you should slow down a bit and understand what you're about to buy.
Reality check! I was just watching a rerun of the Mecum auction at Bloomington Gold. I was surprised to see a very nice 69 435 hp coupe (with sidepipes) go for a mere $37.5, but thought maybe the maroon color held it back. A few minutes later a similar spec car - 435 hp coupe, sidepipes, but in gorgeous lemans blue, bidding topped out at $38.5k. (Must be an earlier thread somewhere about that auction).
