Might seem like a simple question but is the production month of the car in the VIN? Seems like I found this out in the past but have forgotten over the past 24 years of ownership. Thanks in advance.
The trim tag located on the hinge pillar of your drivers door has the build date in the upper right-hand corner. Looks like this.
The L02 is the build date and the interior and exterior codes are also listed. There are guys here that can explain yours to you once you post what yours says.
No problem. I was at a cruise in last week talking to a guy who has owned a 71 for 25+ years. I was showing him where the #'s were, the trim tag, and where to look for the tank sheet. He had no idea.
Remember: the time/build date on the trim tag indicates the day the car arrived at the station on the line where the tag was attached. She would not have been a completed car on that day and probably spent another day, possibly a day and half, on the line before she was finished. Holidays and weekends could also come into play.

In support of what Easy Mike has said, my 71 car has a date on the trim tag of November 30. But based on the data that shows the last vin # per month , my car was finished on 12-01.
My vin is 14 cars higher than the last VIN built for November. @2689
My car has a July 3rd trim tag date and according to GM Canada paperwork came off the line on July 5th. I guess the 4th must be a holiday or something?
LOL Yeah the 4th is some kinda holiday here in the lower 48. I actually know a fair amount about these cars I just have not used the knowledge much since my kids were born. My son turned 16 Weds.
I have been over a year trying to find a problem with my car that plain kicked my butt. She would lay down under hard throttle. I got so frustrated I parked her and didnt touch her for a year. I recently ran into a really good mechanic I knew years ago that has helped me find the problem and got the car running good. He has me excited about the car again and Im spending $$ and time on it again.

They averaged 7-10 cars an hour. The first shift began at 6:00 am. It's possible your car was completed by 8:00 a.m. on December 1. She probably sat outside in the transit lot the rest of the day. Let's hope it wasn't raining or snowing.

Just a guesstimate.
Thanks Easy Mike
The 7 to 10 cars an hour is something I did not know.

It's an estimate only and depends on which source you happen to read. There's an old Corvette News article which says they actually slowed the line down to 7 cars per hour for quality control purposes in 1971.
Read between the lines and it's GM propaganda. They were glueing them together as quickly as they could.
