I have a aftermarket l-88 hood on my 75 for clearance. I figure I might as well make it functional, but I didn't want to spend the money for a kit. I remember seeing someone with this same concept on here but I couldn't find the picture. Im looking for some help with the fiberglassing of the hood. Here is some pics of what I'm trying to do:
I bought this hood on ebay and I don't know what kind of fiberglass I need to use.
Can I use the two part epoxy for SMC or the other with the resin and hardener?
Ill cut this section out: (will I need vertical supports to keep the hood from flexing?)
Ill cut this section and make it level with the rest of the bracing:
Here is the box tacked to the air cleaner base which will have foam around the edges sealing to the hood.
Im not worried about the looks, especially with my newbie welds and jb weld filling in the gaps. Ill swap for my regular intake if I will be showing it. Im looking for function, not good looks. Any comments are welcome.

Reason: pic problems
Anyone on what fiberglass to use? That bracing looks like smc, but I'm not really sure what the difference is.
Epoxy resin (2 part) is compatible with both smc and polyester resin fiberglass, you can't go wrong with it....Can get some at a local marine shop or from us composites....

Most hardware stores carry it to.
Be careful when mixing resin and hardener. To much hardener and it will heat up while curing, enough to warp your hood. I've seen it get so hot that it started smoldering.

Epoxy resin will not heat up, that is what polyester resin does...
I cant remember exactly but I think it came out to 450 or 500 shipped. It was quite a bit cheaper than most places. I heard some others had a problem with the seller, but I didnt. There were a couple places it needed some sanding/finishing, but I am sure most of them will no matter where you get them from.
I am curious about whether other brands have the cowl cut out to be semi-functional or if they are the same as mine.
