Finally figured out my fuel issue (had the fuel pump wired wrong) and finally started my 82 after 12 years of sitting. Thats the good news. The bad news is theres a hard metal on metal knocking sound coming from the engine bay. Any ideas what this could be? MY friend (who is a licensed mechanic) says he think its coming from the lower engine or tranny. Thanks.
Does it have a solid knocking sound(than it could be a Lifter not pumping up) Or a hollow knocking sound(Rod or Main bearing is bad)
A quick way to check if the torque converter/flex plate bolts are loose is to start the car and put it in gear, than put a slight load on the drive train.. hold the brake and bring the RPM's up between 1200 to 1500 and see if the knocking goes away.
Do you know for sure that the car had no knocking 12 years ago? Hows your oil pressure?

If your friend thinks it may be a rod knock, then with the engine at idle, pull one spark plug lead at a time. If you have a rod knock, pulling power off the cylinder will kill or greatly reduce the knock. If a bunch of rods are knocking, it may be hard to notice a significant change.
Obviously you'd want to try to detect the location of the knock and do a visual inspection first.
