The hood on my car is not flush on the sides that meet the right and left fender. The left side (Driver Side) seems to be raised about 1/4 inch higher than the hood. The right side seems to be below the fender edge about 1/4 inch. Is this normal? Is there an adjustment procedure make it close flush with the side fenders?
Thanks.
When I replaced the hood on my 77 it fit the same way what I did was to move those rubber blocks in different directions until the hood lined up perfect with the fenders then I glued them down.
Thanks. Help me out...I don't see any rubber blocks in mine. I see a rubber gasket that runs along the outer inside of the hood. There are no rubber blocks that i can see. Can you please tell me where they are located?
I am assuming your 82 should have the bumpers here is a picture of them I hope to find a link to where you can purchase them. When I do I will send it to you. http://www.1-4u-computer-graphics.co...num=1253152238
Did you get the 80-82 style bumpers with the metal clip molded into them, or the 73-79 type that are stuck into the drip rail by 2 sided tape? If your trying to stay correct original with your CE, than you should use the ones with the metal in them. Chevrolet only used that type on your CE. These get riveted to the drip rail. The assembly manual lists these as being installed "as needed" to align the hood. I have an 81 I bought new, and it only has one. I've seen other 80-82's with none, 1, 2, 3 or 4.
On my 81, the hood fits perfectly at the front and back, but has always been high on both sides, compared to the sides of the top surround. This was very common on 80-82's. In my experience, this usually requires glass work to correct. Since you have one that's high on one side and low on the other, you may be able adjust it out. With the situation I have, when you adjust the hood to fit the sides of the surround, the front and back end up low.
My 76 had a similar problem .The hood sat below the fenders. There are shims that you can get from the venders that go under the hinge mounts. They were there from the factory if needed and sometimes removed. After installing them ,my hood fits perfect.Good luck!

Mine's a '76 also and my hood is great, all along the fenders both sides. Up 'til you get to the opening at the rear by the wipers. There, it is up on both sides at least 1/4 inch. I've deliberated on it over the years and I don't know how one could adjust the REAR height of it without changing the fender alignment along the CENTER part of it.

Does your car have the rubber hood adjusting blocks? I would try the blocks about 2 thirds up toward the wipers. The edge of the hood seems to have plenty of flex at the rear of the hood.
My hood fit terrible regardless of the blocks. It was perfect in the front, low on the sides and high in the back. Adjusted it every which way and still couldn't improve. The shop before me had built up the sides with bondo to even it out ...and I had to also do the same when I repainted the car. On the rear corners of the hood, I had to cut/lower the back corners and re-glass them. Fits/looks great now. The bonding on the top of the fenders can break loose also which would affect alignment issues, you may want to verify the top of the fenders aren't loose. When you look at older magazines that featured Corvette stories, you could see panels that weren't even close.
