Default Road Trip Photos!!!

I began my trip in Jacksonville, FL on Oct. 2nd

Had to make a stop in Crestview at one of America's finest establishments...

Stayed the night in New Orleans. Had some hurricanes, jambalaya and met this gator...

The next day I got as far as the outskirts of Houston. It was dark, pouring rain and the drivers were already fearless so I stopped for the night.

On day three I made it through Houston alive and headed up to Austin via 71 which sent me right through La Grange...

From Austin I took 183/84 to Abilene and then on to Lubbock. That night as I was getting close to Lubbock the fog rolled in and was so thick it wasn't safe to drive even though people were passing me racing off into the unknown...idiots. Check my girl out the next day...

From Lubbock, on day 4, I took 84 to Clovis, NM after enduring high winds and blowing sand along the way. At Clovis I picked up highway 209 to San Jon where I saw these guys generating power to protect baby squirrels from my icky carbon emissions...

This was the first Route 66 sign I encountered on my trip. I'm sure it was a first for my girl as well as she has been an east coast car her whole life...

From San Jon I sped along the old section of the Mother Road to Tucumcari, NM to have lunch at Dell's and let my girl pose for some glamour shots...again

After leaving Tucumcari I picked up 84 north to Las Vegas, NM and stayed the night at the restored Plaza Hotel. It was a fantastic experience, the place is very swanky.

The next day I did the tourist thing in Santa Fe, NM for a few hours...

I took Highway 14 out of Santa Fe to drive through Madrid where they filmed the movie Wild Hogs...

Having burned so much daylight I made it as far as Holbrook, AZ that night and cleaned all the dirt off the car and polished the chrome for photos the next day...

Ladies and Gentlemen...here it is

Somebody slept through navigation 101...

This dude was standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona and appeared to have seven women on his mind...

La Posada

One of four C-3's I saw on my trip. This Army vet just finished building the 383 stroker and transmission and was driving around Winslow tuning the car up.

More Route 66 trinkets for sale...

You know what they say about Indians with big arrows...

Strike a pose...Sedona, AZ

I stopped for the night at this little place in Seligam, AZ

Breakfast

On the old alignment of Route 66 north of I-40

Standing guard at the Grand Canyon Caverns...

The Hackberry General Store. As soon as I parked tourists started taking pictures...

After driving that alignment of Route 66 I drove north from Kingman, AZ to arrive at the Hoover Dam which was an amazing experience...

I spent the night in Vegas with a buddy of mine who deals cards at the Red Rock and then set out today for my hometown Santa Maria, CA.

Does size matter? They seem to think so in Baker...

Today coming home I drove I-15 from Vegas to Barstow, highway 58 to Bakersfield and then I picked up highway 166 to Santa Maria.

Highway 58 from Mojave to Bakersfield was an incredible downhill twisting and turning road that I had a blast driving. I will never drive that road up though. Forget that.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures. I'll post more after I drive from Santa Maria to San Diego next week.

Over 3000 miles and still going strong. Burning money, gas and a little oil.

Oh and my license plate doesn't mean anything. That was randomly given to me when I registered. It confuses people sometimes.

Excellent trip. Sort of feels like a mini vacation for all of us following along on the screen. I've been to many of the same places while traveling for the Army (back in my C4 days). You picked a beautiful and historical route. As others said and implied, envious and hope to do something similar some day with the 69.

Great pics Love that Hackberry General store. That is the best stretch of the old Route 66 between Kingman and Oatman, Arizona. Enjoy the rest of your trip

That's a good one, had to laugh on that one!

Looks like you're having a great trip. Wish I could do that one day. Good luck on the rest of your journey!

By the way, at the end of the trip let us know how much fuel you burned through!

The pictures are breathtaking but what is ubder cool to me is that you get out and enjoy the car, driving it as a car was meant to be used not hoarded away in a climate controlled storage space in a cocoon,

Thanks for the pics, they are great! Aren't you glad you took our advice to take the trip in your 69? I have been to a lot of those spots in AZ, but not in my vette. Maybe your trip will inspire some of us to try it ourselves.

I remember that guy!

Yeah I am very glad everybody talked me into the trip, especially after I learned how incompetent the car movers I was set up with were who moved my Chevy Blazer.

I'm moving coast-to-coast to check in with my first Navy fleet helicopter squadron after finishing my time with the training squadron in Jacksonville. I did have orders to stay in Jacksonville, but I had an opportunity to change them and I jumped at it.

As for fuel costs...I have all the receipts, but haven't bothered to even begin totaling them up yet.

I'm young and I'm single and I saved up some dough for the trip.

But hey 10-14 MPG is good, right?
