Default strange engine-combination

Hello,
my name is Uli from germany and I´m a newbie.
I´m also member of the german corvetteforum.
My car is a ´69 corvette small block with TH400

I have the problem to identify my engie.
It is not the original engine.
The block has No. 14016379 and the heads have No. 462624.
The parts should be from ´79, I think.
Intake manifold has No. 3927184 ( ´69).
Carburater has No. 7029207 (`69).
I cannot find the suffix code on the engine. The stamp pad shows only the following No. : VK261800
I cannot this No. in any list.
The german members told me, this No. would not be for a corvette engine, may be a camaro or something else ?!

Can you help me ?

Thanks Uli

Hi Uli,
You are correct, the block & heads are from 79. The block is late production number. I didn't see anything with "VK" suffix. V would be Flint Michigan assembly plant.

Hi Glenn,
thanks for the answer.
I know these sites, but they cannot help me, because I only have this engine ID-No.

Uli,

Is that the only thing stamped on the pad? If so, it may be an ID number from a rebuilder.

my 79 block has a similar number on engine pad, NO vin number. after pulling the bearings , they were dated 1981 GM, and were precision sized bearings for each main,
so i figured it was a GM service replacement block installed by a dealership.

That's what it sounded like "a GM service replacement block installed by a dealership."
It's not so much a strange engine combination, it's just not original.

Hello
would it help to contact GM directly to find out something of that number, if my block is a GM service replacement block ?

Someone help me here; weren't the "800" coded blocks target engines from Chevrolet?

Hello,
I was on an engine - tester with my car today.
Here are the facts :
Performance : 169,9 kW = 231 HP ( at the rear axle )
Engine torque : 543 Nm

I think, that would be great facts for a small block.
I´m happy about this.

Hi another thread resurrection! Great to see those numbers. I'm in Ireland and am looking at buying an engine that was used in a fire dept appliance to pump foam. It has the same casting number and a similar engine code VK132800. Any more info you have on your engine would be great.

I found more info, these may be Targetmaster engines or target engines the name GM used for factory crate motors prior to Goodwrench.
see below.......

GM service parts operation catalog #10 dated July 1987

"MK24800

M - Hencho (made) in Mexico
K - Built in month of November (A-L used)
24 - day of month
800 - Engine Identification number, means 1979 engine

Info taken from GM service parts operation catalog #10 dated July 1987

Note-Target-Master engines were only built in one configuration, (i.e. universal 350 V8) and were to replace any 350 production engine by using transferable parts from the production engine as needed to fit the application."
