I have a question on tilt steering column. Someone has two tilt steering column to sell. One from a 74 vette and the other from a 69. I have a 69. Both suppose to be in good condition. If I buy one, which is the better of the two? 650.00 Thanks
There is one main difference between the 69 and 74. On the 69 the raised area by the key that says LOCK. One has rounded corners and the other has square corners. For the life of me now, I can't remember the right one for the 69. All things being equal, get the 69 unit.
Other than what is mentioned above the 69-75 columns are the same. Buy the one in better condition. I just did this swap myself and ended up taking the whole column apart and redoing it.
with everything said above. You can purchase the one in the best condition without worrying about fit problems. (Assuming the seller knows what he/she is selling.)

The steering columns designed and manufactured by Saginaw Steering Gear Division for the C3 Corvettes are the only ones that were tested and validated in actual proving grounds crash tests to function correctly as a complete system in a real world test.
I agree with Jim. I always feel a little aprehensive driving my '65 with a 3 ft steel spear pointed at my chest. Collapsible columns were a great invention!
I did mangage to pick up a good used one from a 74 for 150 and rebuilt it with about 60 bucks worth of parts. The Flaming River ones are nice but pricey.

I put a '73 in mine. Unless you are building a hot rod, I'd put a GM correct looking one in there rather than some aftermarket part. Looks way better.
From what I was told, they look GM correct.Hey, I'm the one that shoulda got the Vintage Air A/C unit, but got Hot Rod Air, so what do I know? LOL!(and I'm sure that in 5 yrs,I will regret it)
