Default POR 15 Question

All, need a little help with your opinions. I'm in the process of performing a frame-off on my 69. I sandblasted the frame down to the bare metal. I've decided to use the POR method of protecting and detailing the frame and subcomponents. I've looked through all threads I could find but my question has never really been answered. I used the Marine Clean and Metal Ready prior to painting with the Rust Prevention Paint. After completing the paint work, I'm wondering if the topcoat paint (also black) I purchased is value added or is it a redundant process. After researching the POR products catalog, I'm getting the impression that the topcoat is a cosmetic application for a possible color change (from black) or I'm only guessing, to gain the original factory semi-gloss look. This job is not taking the car back to original but more-so a mild resto-mod project where the factory frame color look is not a pressing concern of mine. However, with all of that being said, I'm sure the extra coat would provide an added protection but just looking for your opinions on going from a frame that now has a clean smooth black (glossy) finish with another paint that is also black (chassis coat black). Is it a personal preference cosmetic-wise??? Thanx all.

Terry

Supposedly POR discolors when exposed to UV light. I didn't use POR's top coat but think any kind of top coat would work. I used Krylon can.

FYI, their engine enamel does not require a top coat.

I used POR on a street rod frame- think I remember that the top coat is the final seal- the under coat does not hold up well to the elements or hold it's color-

Frame still looked good 15 years later when I sold the car-

Thanx folks for the feedback. Excellent points about the color fading which is something I hadn't thought of. I definately want to do this right so it looks like the topcoat is the way to go. I've been wondering about this for over a week now and you convinced me in 10 minutes. That's why I love this forum. Thanx again for your help. I'm sold!
