Default 75 rear bumper?

I need to replace the rear bumper of my 75 vert. noticing several choices , fiberglass true fit etc.... does anyone have experience as to which is the best fit and easiest to install?
also some of the bumpers I have seen have indents for the lettering and some the lettering is just on the bumper.
anyone know which is original?
thanks for the help.
cheers Jb

Slammer,

The only bumpers we will install in our shop are the tru-flex bumpers. They do have the indents in them and seem to fit better than anything else we have tried. Which bumper fits the best is a loaded question. There are so many variances between the cars that what will fit one car fine will have an issue on the other one.

Original cars did not have bumpers that fit perfect! On my old 79 when new on the front had a 1/4" gap from the edge of the fender to the bumper. We have a 78 in our shop right now that we store for a friend of mine and this car has a 1/8" gap on the edge of the rear bumper to the outer edge and it fits horrible in the passenger side upper corner. It is a factory installed bumper on a very low mileage car that has never been out in the weather!

There are two pages on our web site about the variances and there was a great write up here on the forum about six months ago from a person that installed a front and what he did to obtain a great fit!

I would recommend going with a standard fiberglass replacement. We manufacture both, with the "flex" versions running about $10.00 more. Either bumper will most likely need to be custom fit to your car because the cars vary so much. I tend to lean towards the standard fiberglass because it will retain a crisp straight look forever, whereas the flexible fiberglass can show a little distortion over time because there is a retardent added to the catalyst that will cause the fiberglass resin to never completely cure.

Here is some information from our website...
Flexible Fiberglass Bumpers

To flex or not to flex... That is the question !

ACI offers both traditional and our E-Zee fit flexible fiberglass bumpers (previously known as ACI Flex-Gold). It's your choice! Here are a few facts to consider before you decide which bumper is right for you.

When comparing flex fiberglass bumpers with original urethane bumpers you will find flex fiberglass bumpers not to be as flexible. Flex fiberglass and urethane are two distinctly different compounds, therefore it does not flex like urethane. The ACI flex bumpers give the customer the durability and longevity of fiberglass while allowing for some flexibility in fitting and absorbing minor impacts.

If you are looking for the "original" look of urethane, flex bumpers can give you the same type of look because they tend not to be as straight and crisp, similar to urethane when installed.

The advantages of an ACI traditional fiberglass bumper is that you achieve a crisp straight look on the car, waive free forever. These bumpers by nature lend themselves to be custom fitted with slight filling if needed for a perfect fit.

We install both here at our shop. We leave the decision to the customer after we have informed them of the advantages and disadvantages of both choices.

Let me know if you have more questions... I am happy to help

Oh, and yes, 1975 rear bumpers do have the indents for the lettering.
