Hey 68 friends........at last! a decent 68 e-brake console repro. This arrived yesterday from EC Products. I have no affiliation but wanted to show some comparison pics of the old EC repro (which was horrible), the new one, and an original. I think they did a nice job. Also, this one is black and unpainted. I was thinking, if you painted it, even if it's black, it would fill in the grain even a little more and make it even nicer. The grain pattern is nice, the plastic itself seems nicer. Anyway, you be the judge.........Also, the guy from EC, John (owner?) was real nice.
John, Thanks for posting the pictures. From what I can tell the EC Products repro console looks pretty decent!!! A definite improvement over the "old" repro. Whenever you install it in your car, let us know your opinion on the fit.

I sure will......I still prefer originals but the fact is, for daily driving, this seems to be the ticket. I may keep the originals for show, if I ever get to that point. I sent these pics to a 400 pt NCRS judge last night...he was impressed. THe guy is selling these on Ebay now under "Corvette Pacifica" which I guess is the general name for his company. Anyway, I avoided the whole Ebay thing and just contacted him directly through the EC Products website. Very nice guy.
The new one's grain looks more round vs oblong on the older grain like the original. Nice piece though
Also I noticed the surface isn't as flat as the original, has a slight bowed to it, though way better than the old piece. I can see why you would save the original part.
Glenn
as far as the price I do not know as I worked out an exchange with the company owner for my old repo...I think it's under $100.......as far as the curve, I saw that.......just remember the original is 41 yrs old and was installed and rested upon probably flatteneing it a bit. Also, as far as the grain, the company suggests painting it even if it is black. That should fill it in a little. That original pictured was painted over at least once. Still, obviousy prefer the original.
Hi Avalonjohn,
Good to see the new parking brake console. The texture looks great.
If you would be so kind to check out and give me your final opinion after you install the console I would gratefully appreciate the opinion.
First of all how well do the studs/screws installed in the console look or hold up once all the brackets are installed onto the PB console it self.
Is the thickness of the new style console thicker or stronger or harder then the old style. If I'm correct the original (68) is somewhat harder plastic then these new style consoles.
Lastly does the metal E-brake bracket once installed let the slider and E brake handle all move / slide well once the console is installed.
My current PB console and new handle eats up the slider & seems to be wider at the very front of the console and does not like to let the slider retract back down and likes to Bind up.
Let me know what you think.

no problem. I installed the under brackets last night. They seemed to line up fine. As far as the plastic, the old ones are very brittle, that's why 99% are trashed. This new one seems quite flexible, more flexible even than the old POS repro that they had until this one came out. I think I will paint it and see how it looks then. I'll keep you updated on the install. You know, if you have ever seen an Al Knoch repro dash pad, this remind me a lot of that as far as being close to original..........
