Local story, don't know if the boy is going to make it. This story just made me sick to my stomach. I only post as a reminder to be safe while working on our cars.

i will say two prayers for them .....i work on the cars all the times with the kids and i always try to look around and make sure we have a safe area.....its always the top of the list.....but with grinders and welders etc **** can happen.....and it only take a moment ...i hope they are ok
Same thing happened here this weekend, a mechanic working on a van in his garage went up in flames and died at the scene.
Saw one fuel line fire on a car in a garage start literally right 5 feet in front of me while the tech was working on a customers car, and you've got about 10 seconds to react before it is all over. Luckily, this was a professional shop and two fire extinguishers were within reach of each bay, so everything ended up OK.
Play it safe at home.

2 solid tips from my mechanic father.
1) any fuel line work, outside if possible.
2) No trouble light with incandescent bulb. Use a newfangled sealed trouble light... apparently the dropped old school trouble light can causes some of these fires.

I work for a phone company with another tech, working on over 230 vecs. and we use flash lights for 95% of our inspection work.
We try to avoid the drop lights when ever we pull a fuel tank. The drop lights have gotten quite a few people hurt, killed or buildings burnt down.
Sixty-seventy percent of body is almost always fatal. I don't mean to sound cruel but the young man is probably better off. The skin is your body's largest organ. ...loose 60-70% of that organ and....well, it's the worst.

That's not cruel, it's mercy. I had the same thought. Still sad though . . . what a loss.
