Default Rear View mirror Help?

probably should post this in "technical", but, has anyone ever taken an early c3 mirror apart to clean? It appears that some dirt slipped in behind the glass.......is it possible? Thanks, john

hey John
I have taken a few of these apart and rebuilt it depends on what you have year model etc. some have built in map lights , it can also get in from the mounting bracket at the ball being moved around alot for adjustment what is it that you have and what are you trying to do with it?

Mirrors do not have any area for dirt to get behind.
They are painted backs that use reflective coating.
If it looks like dirt, it is the coating pealing off.
Only option is replace either the whole mirror of the glass.
Hope this helps.

The mirror can be re-silvered. Check with local glass and mirror shops.

Re-silvering is expensive. When I fixed my floppy outside mirrors, some of the silvering came off one of the mirrors and the local glass guy said it would be much cheaper to replace the mirror.

where you talking about dirt between the glass and the silver and black backing? if so I agree you will have to replace the glass.

John,

Gotta agree with all of the guys above, the black is usually the silver coming off. I have just the mirror portion of the glass, but the entire mirror is cheaper than just the glass. . . go figure. http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...ducts_id=24598

I should have one out of a '68 convertible, I'm not sure if they are different than the coupe mount or whether the '69 uses the same mount though.
