In the picture below I show a representative sample of the arms I have. My transmission is a Muncie 4 speed with a stock shifter. I am looking for insight on what arms to use. I figure the long throw will give me mechanical advantage for shifting. The short ones might be faster to shift. If there is not too mucvh down side I think I prefer the long throw. What else should I be aware of when making up my mind?
If you set the slotted holes parallel the arms are angled very differently. I don't know how that is going to affect the gear engagement but it might cause shifting issues.
I think that short one is from a Hugo. I would use the long arm but use the low hole.
I just crawled under my 71. The long arms are what you should be using with the stock shifter. I agree with Roger, use the holes closer to the slotted holes. Mine are in the holes at the end of the arms but I have that wonderful stock-like long throw shift pattern.

Thanks for that perceptive observation. I am pretty sure I have enough adjustment on the rods to make up for the difference.
I have seen cars where the linkage was worn enough that the shifter made contact with the console in 1st & 3rd gear. Changing to the lower (short throw) holes solved that.
