I had a local garage here who had done many Corvettes ( his claim). You need someone very experienced at soda blasting fiberglass. Gm used different types of fiberglass body panels depending on the year of your corvette. My guy tried a small spot on the lower rear fender and I did'nt like the huge divit he made. So my paint and body guy reccommended we use razor blades to scrape the old paint off. He didn't want to use paint stripper for fear that some stripper may leach into the fiberglass and show up after the car was finished. My wife and I worked on the car for about 5 evenings 2/4 hours a day, it wasn't hard to do just a little tedious. Other guys have had success with sodablasting and with stripper, I was happy the way mine turned out. Good Luck.

If you use a stripper use a fiberglass friendly one like Captain Lee's Spra Strip or Citrus Strip. If using the razor blade method some people use a heat gun to help soften paint.

I have used Auto Spray Strip with no problems. I also used the razor blade technique, but the trick to that is keeping the blade sharp, clean, and level with the body surface. You can expect nicks.

Factory panels had no gelcoat. You can strip the topcoats to the factory primer, then check the overall condition of the factory primer.

I used citrus strip to soften the paint and razor blades to scrape it then a rag with lacquer thinner to wipe it smooth. Some areas required a second application (I had as many as four different colors of primmer and paint to remove) then washed it down with dawn soap and rinsed with water. It took less than two gallons of citrus strip. It was not near as bad as I had imagined.
Best of luck
