Default Life is good!

Fired up the new 115,000btu turbo heater today.. went from 40 to 70 in 25 minutes! 1280 sq ft garage, that aint bad. I brought my laptop out to check my new wireless router in the house, "very good" connection! Todays project is dyeing my interior parts from sadle to black, the couple pieces I did the other day look really great!

Is that a gas or electric, and is it permanently mounted or portable. Looking for a permanent wall or ceiling mounted propane heater for my garage. If it is permanent mount gas do you have a brand and model #?

Been dyeing parts as well and installing my interior, would be nice to have it a little warmer in the garage!

Thanks!

1280 sqft is the average house. Apparently somebody has money to burn. Propane is good. The question is is your shop insulated?

No its a portable torpedo type, burns kerosene and 2 other fuel types.. I am thinking about getting a used oil furnace as I have all the used oil I could need from my shops. Yes I built a good sized garage, my first house was about 1,000. But it was amazing how fast that garage filled up soon as it was half built. I have the walls insulated well but no drywall up yet and just plastic stapled to the ceiling. I had to turn it down after being out there a few..

I have one of those heaters in my basement that has not been used in over 11 years. We used it over at my dads house when he was alive. I brought it home to my house thinking we might could use it if needed. Well, after all this time, it still has not been fired. But it does sound like it works good for you. I may have to break it out sometime and use it for the hell of it this winter.

Be sure to get you a co detector. The tighter it is closed up the faster the co will build up in the building.

"Life is good" based on the size of that garage alone! Enjoy the heat but as stated above by "wills670" get a CO detector.

Forced air kerosene heaters are stinky and noisy, IMO.

I got 4 of these IR radiant heaters...quiet as a mouse, no electricity needed, thermostat on each...heats objects, not the air. They also make 'em for propane.

Is that a little '66 Nova and a late 70's Z28 in there too? Pretty cool!

I'm just up the road from you in Madison.

That's a great garage; life is good indeed. I don't want to be a wet blanket here, but you need to think twice about using that un-vented fuel oil heater in a well sealed building like it appears that your garage is.

I used a 115K torpedo heater in my 1100 sq ft garage for a few years before I insulated it, and it worked pretty well. The building was drafty as hell, being a timber framed barn with nothing but the rough sawn siding separating me from the outside. Last fall I installed r19 in the walls and r30 in the ceilings. I also kept on using the heater, burning diesel fuel like I always did. After a couple of weekends of use, I started getting random dizzy spells....happened at weird times, and not just when I was in the garage. This got worse over the winter as I continued to work in the garage. I finally realized that I was poisoning myself with CO!

CO builds up in your system over time and it takes a long time for your body to rid itself of it. You hear about people getting killed by CO when a furnace malfunctions overnight and they don't wake up in the morning, but what you don't hear about is the people that are adversely affected by an excessive exposure to CO over a long time weighted average. My issues subsided after a few weeks when I quit using the torpedo heater.

This year, I installed a 75K VENTED propane furnace, and will stay nice and toasty warm and healthy this winter. Seriously, do yourself a favor and look into another source of heat. My installation was not that expensive, plus a vented heater will keep the moisture out of the garage.

Stay safe.

PS - That a great collection of cars.
