Default Two console questions???

What bulb goes in the shifter illumination hole??

There is a double black ground wire with a single spade (male) connector coming out of the console harness. I cant find its female counterpart. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Rob

The shifter illumination bulb is an 1895.

IIRC the double black wire is a ground for the console. Look for a connector that is screwed onto the heater control unit although it seems to me mine is a female wire to a male connector on the control unit.

But that's from memory and mine is getting worse everyday.

Look for an L shaped spade terminal on the underside of the console trim plate. Harness ground plugs on to the terminal. If you don't find one, check the AIM for your year to determine where it's supposed to be.

Thanks guys,

I did find the AIM page showing the connector, although its not completely clear what its attached to. Maybe the underside of the heater controls or in that area.

Rob, I'm assuming this is on your '72. On mine I found the spade connector on the passenger side of the heater control assembly near the front towards the top. It points right at the ashtray/lighter area.

I'll look, but I was thinking (scary!)...since I converted to a Vintage Air system, I dont have the same electrical connections to the heater control assembly (no fan harness for example, well...different). I'm thinking that the control assembly isnt going to provide the same ground as original. I think I may install a blade connector onto the shifter mount for a better ground connection to the rest of the car.

Since the heater control assembly sits on the little metal frame that screws to the fiberglass console, I cant really see a good ground pathway to the car frame.

An added blade connector on the metal shifter mount probably wont make any difference, but its easy since its all out.

Yes, the 72.

Thanks,
Rob

That ground is mainly for the heater control. Your 1895 bulb will also get it's ground from that wire. Other than the lighter, nothing else on the console requires a ground.
