I dont know if it would cause any problems, but I would try to avoid powder coating in the grove.
I don't know how you would avoid coating the grove itself, since the part is baked in an oven, and tape would melt away to nothing. I've never heard of any issues with the coating coming off in an application such as this, since the factory part is painted, so I suspect that the powdercoating would actually be a LOT tougher, and have more wear resistance than paint. Just a thought anyways.
