Hey guys,
After a few year hiatus I got myself another vette. Originally I had a 1979 L-82. It was a decent 10 footer. I rebuilt the engine and had no luck with it after it came back from the machine shop. I brought the bare block to my local machine shop just to have the oil gallies cleaned and new freeze plugs installed. One of my buddies worked there and tried doing me a favor by honing the walls for me. When I assembled the engine I kept getting oil in the number 8 cylinder. After I exhausted all my options I realized that it was from my "buddies" machining knowledge........ I wound up just being disgusted with the car and selling it off for a loss.. But now, Im back.
I got myself a 1971 350/270hp turn key vette. The paint is ok and the motor runs strong. I will post pics of it tomorrow. The best part is I got it for $10,000. Its a friends car, hes owned it for 6-7 years. Someone took the car from him on a payment plan but wound up not being able to make the payments, so I snatched it for the remaining balance. I will have much more info tomorrow after I go through the car and will post more then. I just wanted to say, its good to be back!!!
If your buddy from last years posting got what he wanted out of the deal between you and whoever had the car last, then you and your friend are happy campers, right?
That will be a nice project car for the money you paid. Looks like a solid foundation. What are your initial plans with it?
It'll be fun to watch whatever you do so get a decent camera, get the photo host site ready, and show us the work along the way. You know we'll be watching...
For now it'll just be driven. I plan to repaint it, its a little rough. Looks good but not beautiful. I gotta run the vin an see all the specs. I suspect its been painted once before. I would kinda rather that it was painted, that way I wont feel stuck keeping it the same color. I really like the look of the BMW maroon. It has a real nice flake in it, but I'll decide that later. I have so many plans in my head but I promised I wouldn't buy anything else for a while. I just bought an excursion last month, lifted and installed 35" tires a couple weeks ago, and now I bought this. Needless to say, the fiance is not too pleased. So for now the only things I'll be doing are upgrades that NEED to be done. But I'll definitely take pics along the way.
Well I was right about the car being painted before. It looks like it may have been painted more then once!!! In some areas of the car where there are chips or scraps you can see some yellow coming thru. I looked in the door jam to get the paint code and it was 905. That is the code for silver. So now I'm curious if the car is even numbers matching. I'll check that out tomorrow. I don't mind really since it is in good shape and I snagged it for 10k. The owner who sold it to my friend said it was original. He doesn't know much about cars, just likes to drive them, so I guess he took the guys word for it. I just hope i dont go thru this thing and find that bubba owned it. I'll keep you posted
