Probably an old Ecklers hatch conversion.

...I always wondered if you had one that the car was bone stock except for this conversion and took it to like Bloomington or an NCRS meet and had it judged. "My next door neighbor's best friend bought it brand new and it's completely original, never been touched"

I would love to see some pics of the conversion.
If you have trouble posting pics send them to my email and I will post them. Thanks. dawnandroger@sbcglobal.net

The conversion is aftermarket. He can call it "rare" if he wants to. The question is whether you want his '75 with the conversion.

I saw this at Carlisle a few years ago. Not my thing, but the conversion was popular for a while.

I was at a car show several years ago and I saw this in the parking lot... had to take the picture since I had never seen one before. I also have a older book on corvette mods and it lists the ecklers conversion for this

I love when sellers have no idea what they are talking about, so they pull out the "rare" card.

By the way, don't pay a "rare" price.

I had a local dealer try to give me one of those old kits about 15 years ago and I declined. Probably should have taken it from him since they are rare now...

Actually it's been a very long time since I've seen one of these and yes they were popular for some in the mid to late 70's. . . . but then again what wasn't.

Was this the only conversion that Ecklers sold like this ? I was under the impression the conversion they sold looked exactly like the 82 CE rear window. ???

Roger-

I'm not sure! I have an old catalog somewhere, but I think there were different conversion kits available for the wagon look.

Yes there was a collector style conversion kit, we have a local customer that has this on a 1979... Swears that it's factory installed too! Again, rare! Nothing we can tell this person will convince them other wise.

I remember going through St. Louis in 77 and there was a 77 outside the plant that was a mocked up 78 car with the bubble rear window. The funny thing is that we were told not to take pictures yet someone did! There is always one in a crowd and they took his film before he exited the facility. The other thing I remember was that it was held together with sheet metal screws.
