Well, I'm 6'3" (and reasonably skinny), and the car is a coupe. Right now I have to remove the headliner to have room for my helmet.
I was kicking around the idea of welding up some custom mounts to lower the driver's seat a touch, if possible. Adjustable mounts aren't needed much, as I'm the only driver, and I always have the seat all the way back due to my height. Getting access to the anchor bolts seems to be the big challenge, though. I guess I'm sure I'll see what the actual challenges are once I start working on this.
Originality doesn't mean much to me, but I do have a strong preference for using later model Corvette parts rather than aftermarket stuff if possible.
Given that the consensus seems to be that these seats are a big improvement over the older ones, my next task is to see if any of the upholstery suppliers (do or will) supply later skins made with the earlier color. My present seats are bright blue, and I don't believe this was a color used in the later C3s.
Having the '78 Oyster interior and getting a match is the biggest thing holding me back.
Anyone here (vendors) know how much different the '78 Oyster is from the '80-'81 (forget the year) Oyster?

I was looking at a seat cover catalog, and it just dawned on me that I don't see headrests with these seats. Are these seats tall enough in the back that they don't "need" headrests?

Mike, with a helmet in a coupe, I suspect you going to be worse off than me even, as you maybe heard, I lowered my '72 seat and extended the firewall forward down lo, and dropped the pedals forward some 3"...that helped a lot when the top is up, and in driving....I even have the old OEM foam in the driver's seat for the extra room....I suspect your situation is similar to mine when driving a old friend's '78 PCar....those seats shoved my head way too high into the roof panels, making getting in/out a PIA....maybe a inch of room off the panels when seated....
for that matter I have slammed many a seat even in work VANS...to get my head off the damn headliner....I"m 6'5" with a long backbone...
and the arthritis don't freeking help either....
maybe wait till the KIss show and see if you can sit in someone's car...

It just dawned on me. How does the shoulder belt/strap route on these seats? My '69 seats have a small metal guide between the seat and headrest to keep the strap from slipping to the side. How is it handled on these seats? Anybody have a picture of the seat and the shoulder strap?

C5 seats were my original plan, but I'm getting a heck of a deal on these later C3 seats. I'm stuck paying money to have them (custom) re-covered to replicate the '69 color (bright blue) regardless of what seats I get, and it looks to be more cost effective to go the C3 seat route. (However, if a pair of C5 seats fell into my lap, I could probably change directions.)
I'm entertaining putting later model C3 seats in my '69 as part of a weight reduction program. The later seats are supposed to be about 15 pounds lighter (each), and I can get a pretty good deal on a set. I've never sat in a late C3, so are these seats comfortable, and how is the side support? The stock '69 seats are pretty pathetic when it comes to side support, and the comfort level is only reasonably acceptable.
Thanks,
Mike
I think they are by far the best C3 seats hands down.
