Some years back, all the fluid in my windshield water tank drained out all at once, while the car was parked. I figured the tank had cracked but I was wrong. I was under the car yesterday seeing what it takes to get the charcoal cannister out and saw that the pump had become disconnected from the bottom of the tank and is just hanging. Tank looks good near as I can tell but I have a bad feeling that there is something inside the tank, like a big nut, that held the pump in place. Is this the case??? I couldn't tell how it was attached, which may mean there is a nipple broken off or something along those lines. I do know it won't be easy to get the tank out if it needs to be dropped. Go ahead and hit me with the bad news.
There's a big nut inside. Can you see it ? Are there threads left on the pump ?
Nope, I think the threads are still in the bottom of the tank.... Looks like it is coming out and a new pump is in order. I can't see the big nut but then again you have to be a contortionist to with most things in this car. I would imagine with the washer neck out of the way I would see the nut. Thanks for the info.
Threads are probably broken off and still in the nut. I believe the nut has a filter built in also.
Its been awhile but I'm pretty sure Ive put a pump in before without removing the tank using a socket and extension through the top.

I would assume that the neck needs to be removed at least. Seems like a two man operation to me but I guess I will find out. Thanks again for the info.

Well....that was fun. The only way to do this as a one man operation was to remove the tank. I am surprised I didn't punch a hole in it or crack it trying to get it out or during the reinstall. My arms and hands look like I tried to throw a heard of cats in a pool. I look pretty clawed up but I got me a working pump again. Now on to the E-brake.....again.
