Redoing the interior in the 69 and when i pulled out the console, I was replacing the bulbs in the cigarette lighter and for the climate control. I notice that the black wire pictured below was sticking up, but I could not find a place to connect it. I assum it is some kind of ground for the lighter bulb because it would only come on if I touched it to the bulb housing, but am at a loss as to where it goes? Any help would be appreciated, thanks, Jeremy
PS, does anyone know what the black thing is for under my radio that looks like some sort of relay?
That is the ground for the shift plate / lighter socket. Half way down on the bottom side of the shift plate there should be an L shaped tab held in by a screw. That wire connects to it.
I believe that is the windshield Wiper relay.

Correct on both counts.
My ground tab was broken, I found another in one of my part boxes and mounted as shown in this picture. Probably not in the right location but it works for me.
Great, thanks for the answers and great pictures, very helpful! I can't find a tab on either the shift plate or climate control, but I am sure that I can come up with something
