Default Carpet install help please

This may be a stupid question, but i will ask anyway because if i am wrong and start cutting it will be money down the drain to order a new carpet set...

I'm installing rear carpet in a '71 and not 100% sure which side is which for the wheel wells. I snapped a couple of pictures of what i think goes on the driver's side wheel well...
(assuming left = bottom and right (tapered side) = top).

(assuming square hole in padding is for seat belt assembly....although it doesn't line up quite right)...

Jammed the other piece into place on the driver's side and it seems to look ok, so i'm thinking i'm correct...

your first picture is the left side being the drivers side. the tappered corner goes to the top by the top side of the door.

I gave up on mine, but after thinking about the tool I used (a cut off screwdriver) I should weld on a washer as a depth stop to keep the screwdriver shaft from tearing through the plugs.
