Auto transport woes.....
.
Mechanical repairs to his vehicle notwithstanding (if they are in fact really happening)............ice or snow is no excuse. I have personally seen hundreds of 6 figure cars loaded on either flatdecks or enclosed carriers via their lift beds, in virtually all winter conditions.
I have a very low opinion of about 75% of the transportation companies that I have been exposed to over the last 20 years as a dealer. The other 25% are exceptional in meeting their time commitments, as well as providing you with legitimate and straight forward information about the whereabouts of your car and it's status, but, the rest are a pack of bald faced crooks and liars. Seems to be a business model where you can burn your clients, and there are always more ready to take their place........
FWIW........one of the great ones are a sponsor here.........TFX.

1) Company was unable to make the agreed pick-up time. Had to put my car into a long-term storage place to be picked up two weeks later as I started moving my family cross country.
2) Driver quit halfway across country. Takes all the keys (this was an 18-wheeler car carrier so 6 cars) and throws keys away. They now have to deliver cars in reverse order loaded so they can get cars off.
3) Car finally shows and left rear brake caliper is now hosed up and leaking fluid. I very gingerly drive the car home from the Home Depot lot that I met them at.
Overall, took about 2 months for a promised 2 week delivery. Never again. I will rent a U-Haul truck and trailer one way before I ship my car.

I'm still salty to this day about getting about $400 worth of tools and other items stolen out of the trunk of a '69 Camero I had shipped back in 2000. Not to mention a 1/2 tank of gas gone and a foot long scratch up the pass quarter panel that I didn't see because it was so filthy when it arrived. I called that POS company for about 4 months before I gave up on getting any type of compensation.
Now I have to try to be cool and give him a chance and hope he doesn't try to cheap me...
Just for kicks I have to ask this question, since it's been brought up on the forums before...you going to tip him?
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

He is in the process of refunding ( bank wire ) my money.
I and crossing fingers and toes on that one.
He was going to Ohio for a drop off then to pick up my car, he was forced by the buyer to drop off the other car but didn't pick up my car that day even though he said he would.
He said he has two cars waiting for pick up in Carolinas...he said he only haul 3 cars at a time.
He is staying with family in Ohio so it's costing him minimal to be there.
What he told me was The service on his truck was maintenance not needed repairs however the truck has been in the shop for the majority of the time he has been there.
Now I am back to square one,
My car is in Wadsworth Ohio and I need it hauled to Florida,
I posted on Uship.com but they are akin to Craigslist if you get my drift.
Any suggestions on a transporter?
Many thanks'!
Passport Transport (Fedex)
I cannot remember the name of the place I have always used in the US (must be getting old) so I have to look it up tonight from a Porsche club "Panorama" magazine that I have at home and then check to see if they are still around. It's been 18 months now since I last used them, and there has been a lot of consolidation in the car carrier business in the US due to the crappy economy. Did a GOOGLE search and couldn't find them, so maybe they got bought out. You cannot go wrong with either of these two, but I will still post the other guy tonight when I get home.
Big problem right now is that the dog and pony show known as BJ is on in Arizona and pretty much every trucking company is involved in that.

Why don't you go by the dealer auto auction place that is near the turnpike on the south side of Orlando and check for smaller mom and pop outfits. There are lots of them around here that can haul only a car or two and they stay pretty busy, obviously fairly reliable and costy effective, or the dealerships wouldn't use them.
the only sure way to get it done is to do it yourself..
rent a truck and a uhaul trailer and head on up and pick it up yourself..
a day up and a day back... 500-600 bucks..
eliminate the points of failure.. only way to get it done...
You can also call TFX as they are a sponsor here and have been really good to me........they are a Canadian company that may have are truck heading south in your direction, who can collect your car and bring it to you.
Whenever I had a car staying in the US though, I always used these guys........this was the company I could not remember earlier. I've used them a dozen times in the last 4 years and they are excellent !!!

If the car is drivable, why not ask if there is a Forum member who could drive it down for you, and you pay the petrol costs and the air fare home? Or fly up there yourself and drive it home. Or meet half way. I know it's a long way, but barring breakdowns, you know it will get there. Surely this is one of the reasons the Forum exists?

As things turned out the same fellow who hauled my Mako body parts down for me just happens to be fetching a Lotus in Ohio and will snag my car when he is there early this week upcoming...

As far as the fellow who didn't work out he has promised the refund which should show up tomorrow or perhaps Tuesday and if he comes thru with that then he isnt all bad,
Personally I do not believe the weather was the real hang up but none of that matters now.
So my car will be here hopefully the end of the week...I can't wait.

PS.
I might get really lucky and the 86 might have sold tonight too...
