I guess you also have to understand that these are high $ cars and not just any regular daily drivers being towed short distances. The guy is responsible for getting the car to its destination and he is probably just being cautious about it, I wouldn't want to pay someone thousands of dollars for something that could have been avoided. Hope everything works out well. Good luck.

Sounds to me like you are getting the total run around.

Mechanical repairs to his vehicle notwithstanding (if they are in fact really happening)............ice or snow is no excuse. I have personally seen hundreds of 6 figure cars loaded on either flatdecks or enclosed carriers via their lift beds, in virtually all winter conditions.

I have a very low opinion of about 75% of the transportation companies that I have been exposed to over the last 20 years as a dealer. The other 25% are exceptional in meeting their time commitments, as well as providing you with legitimate and straight forward information about the whereabouts of your car and it's status, but, the rest are a pack of bald faced crooks and liars. Seems to be a business model where you can burn your clients, and there are always more ready to take their place........

FWIW........one of the great ones are a sponsor here.........TFX.

Sounds to me like he's trying to time his arrival right to pick up the other 2 cars rather than drive to Fla with only one. Makes perfect business sense.

Back in 2004, I had my car shipped to RI from WA when I did a PCS move.

1) Company was unable to make the agreed pick-up time. Had to put my car into a long-term storage place to be picked up two weeks later as I started moving my family cross country.

2) Driver quit halfway across country. Takes all the keys (this was an 18-wheeler car carrier so 6 cars) and throws keys away. They now have to deliver cars in reverse order loaded so they can get cars off.

3) Car finally shows and left rear brake caliper is now hosed up and leaking fluid. I very gingerly drive the car home from the Home Depot lot that I met them at.

Overall, took about 2 months for a promised 2 week delivery. Never again. I will rent a U-Haul truck and trailer one way before I ship my car.

I'm still salty to this day about getting about $400 worth of tools and other items stolen out of the trunk of a '69 Camero I had shipped back in 2000. Not to mention a 1/2 tank of gas gone and a foot long scratch up the pass quarter panel that I didn't see because it was so filthy when it arrived. I called that POS company for about 4 months before I gave up on getting any type of compensation.

Since your having doubts I'd be sure to thoroughly check it over before you sign anything!!

Just for kicks I have to ask this question, since it's been brought up on the forums before...you going to tip him?

I think he's just trying to move cars as efficiently as he can. He is probably looking for a few more loads going in your direction. Besides, he already got paid so what's the rush.

If the transporter is multicar, he is most likely trying to fix a schedule cancellation / delay problem.....Since the transport was pre-paid, he should be calling you to update his status daily ( at the very least ).....Hope it works out for you.....Judging by how much snow many parts of Ohio got last week, I wouldn't be able to get to Florida fast enough ( although I heard Florida has been extremely frigid also )

Let me update and clear up a few details,

He is in the process of refunding ( bank wire ) my money.
I and crossing fingers and toes on that one.

He was going to Ohio for a drop off then to pick up my car, he was forced by the buyer to drop off the other car but didn't pick up my car that day even though he said he would.

He said he has two cars waiting for pick up in Carolinas...he said he only haul 3 cars at a time.

He is staying with family in Ohio so it's costing him minimal to be there.
What he told me was The service on his truck was maintenance not needed repairs however the truck has been in the shop for the majority of the time he has been there.

Now I am back to square one,
My car is in Wadsworth Ohio and I need it hauled to Florida,
I posted on Uship.com but they are akin to Craigslist if you get my drift.

Any suggestions on a transporter?

Many thanks'!

As my Dad told me....

"If you want to make sure that a job is done badly, pay for the whole thing in advance"

I hope you get your car ASAP!

Yes Sir; I used Murphy Auto Transport, I paid him when he got my car here and unloaded. He is an owner / operator He can Fax you Proof of Ins. He picked my car up and loaded & unloaded it, without motor or Trans. 5/2007 was approx date of Transport. I haven't needed them again. Don Murphy -owner / Sue Cuthbertson - Dispatch 417-273-oo21 they offer Coast to Coast service. He did exactly what he said he would do. Have a great one. Gene

Intercity Lines

Passport Transport (Fedex)

I cannot remember the name of the place I have always used in the US (must be getting old) so I have to look it up tonight from a Porsche club "Panorama" magazine that I have at home and then check to see if they are still around. It's been 18 months now since I last used them, and there has been a lot of consolidation in the car carrier business in the US due to the crappy economy. Did a GOOGLE search and couldn't find them, so maybe they got bought out. You cannot go wrong with either of these two, but I will still post the other guy tonight when I get home.

Big problem right now is that the dog and pony show known as BJ is on in Arizona and pretty much every trucking company is involved in that.

Why don't you go by the dealer auto auction place that is near the turnpike on the south side of Orlando and check for smaller mom and pop outfits. There are lots of them around here that can haul only a car or two and they stay pretty busy, obviously fairly reliable and costy effective, or the dealerships wouldn't use them.

looks like it is turning into a nightmare for you....
the only sure way to get it done is to do it yourself..

rent a truck and a uhaul trailer and head on up and pick it up yourself..
a day up and a day back... 500-600 bucks..

eliminate the points of failure.. only way to get it done...

I live in Wadsworth, Ohio and the weather the last two days have been OK for loading up. No snow temp in the 30's and no wind and we have some large parking lots with most of the snow melted off except for the piles of snow. Good luck getting your car home.

The13Bats......

You can also call TFX as they are a sponsor here and have been really good to me........they are a Canadian company that may have are truck heading south in your direction, who can collect your car and bring it to you.

Whenever I had a car staying in the US though, I always used these guys........this was the company I could not remember earlier. I've used them a dozen times in the last 4 years and they are excellent !!!

Default Is it drivable?

Bats,
If the car is drivable, why not ask if there is a Forum member who could drive it down for you, and you pay the petrol costs and the air fare home? Or fly up there yourself and drive it home. Or meet half way. I know it's a long way, but barring breakdowns, you know it will get there. Surely this is one of the reasons the Forum exists?

Regards from Down Under

Hey...I wanna thanks everyone including you guys who sent me private heads up,

As things turned out the same fellow who hauled my Mako body parts down for me just happens to be fetching a Lotus in Ohio and will snag my car when he is there early this week upcoming...

As far as the fellow who didn't work out he has promised the refund which should show up tomorrow or perhaps Tuesday and if he comes thru with that then he isnt all bad,

Personally I do not believe the weather was the real hang up but none of that matters now.

So my car will be here hopefully the end of the week...I can't wait.

PS.
I might get really lucky and the 86 might have sold tonight too...
