It's funny that this post came about...since I have recently had this SAME exact discussion with my wife and my kids (kids are under the age of 9). My wife thinks it's just silly that I call the cars (and any vehicle...boat, plane, car, etc) a "she". I tried to explain to her that it's because they are temperamental, and she didn't dig that answer at ALL! I've already brainwashed my kids and told them that they are "she's" because you treat them with respect, love, and care....just like I treat momma!
But my biggest question is this: Are there ANY things that ARE called male in the automobile world? I've NEVER heard "Boy...he's sure running good".... there has always been a female connotation to that, at least for me. My wife maintains that they are machines, and still fails to grasp that you NEVER, NEVER, NEVER speak ill of the car that you are driving while actually IN the car....NEVER talk about trading in a car that you are driving while IN the car that may be traded off...and never lie about why you couldn't get somewhere, blaming the car as the reason, because it WILL actually happen to you at some point!!
Yes.... my sons (was mine when I was 14) 72 Jeep CJ5, Mr Weeds.
And My SUV, Dodge Durango, Piglet (because the front looks like a pigs snout, and it sucks gas like a HOG) .... and my older sons Dakota, PJ, or Piglet Jr.
That is sick! I love it! Where did you get the graphics? BTWm I fish at the coast alot, no surfing. Guess I would if the boat went down, though! LOL! The rods are it!

Yes, for the record, "the car" in the German language is "das Auto". "Das" is a female pronoun. "The truck" in German is "der Lastkraftwagen". "Der" is the male pronoun.
So it's official, cars are female trucks are male. Just as I would have supposed.
I looked it up and actually Das and Der may be definitive’s not pronouns, but I'm an engineer not an English major. (English experts help me out). I do know from my travels in Germany the Das is female and Der is male. We actually had this conversation regarding the sex of vehicles.

Thats not true, der is male, die is female and das is undefined!
So das auto is neither male or female! They are transgender!

Heh.... that whole idea about "everybody speaking German" was already tried - around the same time they came up with the Volkswagen Beetle.
From the original Star Trek series: Jim Kirk talking about the Enterprise (I hope I get this right): “I give she takes, she won’t permit me my life. Now I know why they call it SHE”
